One way I notice this happening is how songs I listen to (mostly 90s pop-rock) tend to build up a story within the song through simple sentence structures. Japanese poets and lyricists understand this, and they work with that trait of the Japanese language, rather than trying to go around or against it. It’s also nice knowing the information isn’t dense just to pander to Japanese learners. Because there’s less information to absorb, the understanding becomes more than lexical and grammatical points. I find that, as a non-native learner, listening to songs - understanding the lyrics, and connecting to the songs’ sentiments - is really rewarding, in part because lyrics tend not to be dense. I’m not very good at songwriting myself, but here’s my ¥2.
